Jewel awoke me on Friday morning at 3AM and she was in early labor. She presented us with the first puppy at 730pm on Friday Mary 29th a girl. Now pink girl. At first thought to be liver. An hour and 30 mins later the 2nd girl arrived. Green girl. And right behind her came purple girl. These two were very close together so thank heaven Sue McCord had come to give a helping hand. Pink girl got very upset with us each time we removed her from Mom to birth another puppy. She even climbed out of the holding box that we put the pups in while Mom is having another puppy. A holding box is an extra usually cardboard box kept warm with a heating pad for the pups to be safe in so Mom doesn't accidently step on them while she is excited about the new pup. We then waited an hour and 45 mins for the one and only boy to come. Of course he is Blue Boy. All the pups are around one pound in weight and sucking on Mom without any problems. Thank you Jewel for not making it a long labor.

We are still waiting for Hattie to join the world of mother hood. Her temperature has not dropped yet but she is starting to show very early signs. Doesn't want me to leave her side. Hattie has taken the "Queen attitude" of getting ready for her labor. She had Jewel do all the digging of the den while she supervised the job and gave her approval and now since Jewel is not there to do it and I have blocked off the "Den" she has enlisted Jama into taking care of things. Hattie has Jama tearing up the paper in her whelping box while again Hattie supervises and inspects the job. Hattie sleeps in the room loose at night with the whelping box but before she goes to bed she has Jama fluff the papers in the whelping box just in case she needs it during the night.

Jewels puppies are here!

Introduction to Mothers.

May 28, 2009 Yesterday Hattie and Jewel made a trip to the vets for their xray to see how many puppies each is having. I was so disappointed when the vet said that Jewel is having only 4 and Hattie only 3. But I guess it could be worse there could be none.

Hattie is having an AKC litter and was bred to CH Amera's Intuition owned by Sue McCord. Sue will also be helping whelp these litters while I go to work to make money to buy dog food.

Jewel is having an NUA litter. She was bred to Robinwood Rainmaker at Siobahn. Jewel's litter will be UKC Registered. More on NUA Dalmatians later. Jewel seems to be the designer of the two. She has been working on a den between the puppy yard and the shed. Today will Jewel was working Jama happen to stick her nose in and Jewel became very up set with her. Boy can Jama run. Usually Hattie stands guard and then inspects the area but she was off attending to personal business when Jama showed up. After the noise I went out to "inspect" the den and was surprised to see not only did it run all the way under the shed but almost under the back fencing so now I have closed off access to the den. Both Hattie and Jewel are very upset about losting their future home for their pups. Neither are thrilled with the whelping box that I have set up of each. Will post pictures later Alice
